Monday Devotion: Week 5: Perseverance
James 1:2-4 NIV
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, [3] because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. [4] Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
Hebrews 3:14 NIV
We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.
Philippians 1:6 NIV
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Reflective questions:
- When you are facing uncertainty, and adversity in life, who do you first call out for help? Is it God whom you cry out to?
- Have you ever felt you failed God? How has Paul encouraged you through the passage below?
Philippians 3:12-14 NIV
12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
- You’re God’s masterpiece.
Ephesians 2:10 NLT
10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
How does that make you feel?
- Do you believe in God’s promise that He will finsih the work He started in You?

Dear Heavenly Father,
Please help us never give up on working on becoming more like You.
Help us to perseverance our faith in You.
Help us to learn from Philippians 3:12-14

God, help us remember that You’re a merciful God.

All we need is come before you, just as we are, to receive blessing, comfort, correction, and renewal in You.
God, you are a merciful God.
Help us to understand, nothing we shall fear.
Psalm 27:1
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?
That when we fall, you will pick us up.
When we fail, your mercy is more.
God, let us run to you and embrace you, every day and every night
In our failure and distress, You found us.
On our own, we cannot do anything, but with you everything is possible.
Matthew 19:26 NIV
26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
God, help us to humble ourselves and trust in You.
Help us to strengthen our faith.
Please remind us how you have been walking with us through all our up and down through our lives.
Remind us your wonderful grace, your unfailing strength.
That You are God, the only one we can rely on.
You are our only hope.
That You have already overcome the world.
John 16:33 NIV
33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
1 John 5:5 NIV
5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
If we ever in doubt, let us look at the cross. That you have overcome the grave. Nothing we shall fear.
That we shall put our faith in You, and visit Your Words often.
2 Timothy 3:16 NIV
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
John 14:26 NIV
26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you..
And as we pray, the Holy Spirit intercede for us.
Romans 8:26-27 NIV
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
God, may we desire to strengthen our spiritual formation practice, and that we learn to lean on You.
May we delight in Your Word, and meditate Your Word day and night.
May we come before you with all our petition and prayers.
May we come to Your Presence and enjoy Your Walk with us every day and night.
May we always rejoice in You, through both our up and down in life.
Because we know you have a plan to prosper us, and not to harm us.
Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
May we always lift up all our worries to you.
May our faith perseverance till the end, through our fellowship with You.
